If you travel around long enough you find yourself returning
to the places you call your home
A circle of the interstates, a map of all the sad mistakes
And the love you knew on nights it was so cold
I'm following that road where it leads me
I fooled myself by thinking I was free
My shadow comes to lead me on
Tomorrow morn I may be gone
'Cause the road will call and I can't get away
God bless the children who don't leave their home
God bless the ones who cannot stay
But most of all God bless the ones
who can't be held by even love
Else their dreams of life will slip away
It's a lesson in futility, it's taken me so long to see
Now I can't look the other way
So I leave my love outside your door
beside the milk jogs on the floor
And pack my things and be off on my way
'Cause I'm traveling that road that's inside me
Almost thought for a moment I was free
But last night I heard that highway sound
It tells me I can't settle down
And that lonely song may never let me be
